Our Story

Lumina Volunteers UK began with a simple but powerful conversation.

A patient shared how she volunteered in care homes, decorating residents’ rooms for Christmas. Many rooms had little or no decoration. More worrying, she noticed that residents who once walked independently were now using wheelchairs, falling more often, and losing confidence; quietly accepting this as “just part of ageing”.

Many had never been referred to physiotherapy, often because no one realised a referral was possible or knew how to start one. At the same time, community services were already stretched.

That conversation stayed with us.

Lumina Volunteers UK was created to bring skilled, compassionate volunteering into care and community settings; not to replace existing services, but to recognise, support, encourage movement, and help people access the right help at the right time.
